Welcome to the Department of Finance

The Department of Finance at the School of Business, National University of Mongolia is one of the country’s oldest and most respected institutions for educating financial professionals.Since its founding in 1958, it has played a central role in shaping Mongolia’s financial sector through rigorous academic programs and impactful research.
Originally established as the Department of Accounting and Finance within the Faculty of Economics, it became an independent faculty in the 1963–1964 academic year. With this change came a new era of academic freedom, allowing the faculty to develop its own curriculum and research agenda.
Adapting to Change, Leading in Innovation
In response to Mongolia’s political, economic, and social transformations in the 1990s, the Department of Finance completely redesigned its curriculum. The updated programs now meet international standards and offer students high-quality education aligned with global best practices.
Core subjects include:
- Finance
- Banking
- Insurance
Our faculty members are actively involved in teaching and research teams, fostering collaboration and deeper expertise in areas such as public finance, financial management, investments, banking, and insurance. These groups enhance both teaching quality and research impact.
Excellence in Student Achievement and Research
Students from the Department of Finance consistently perform at a high level in national academic competitions, including:
- Financial Management
- Best Banker
- Who Knows Taxes Best?
Their success in these contests reflects the strong foundation provided by our academic programs and teaching methods.
Scientific research is a growing priority among students. Each year, more students participate in conferences and forums hosted by the university, partner institutions, and industry organizations — often receiving top scores for their presentations and research papers.
A Strong Faculty with a Global Outlook
Research is at the heart of our mission. Approximately 60% of our teaching staff hold doctoral degrees earned from prestigious universities in Mongolia and abroad. Faculty members regularly present at conferences and publish in peer-reviewed national and international journals with impact factors.
